Jelly Bean, 2003.
This table was the fourth in my Planarity Reduction Series, following and sister to Four Planes. I took a brief time out in my pursuit of planarity reduction in order to explore an interest in copper forming inspired by a friend and fellow artist. This table shares the same basic structure as Four Planes and was made essentially at the same time. Its non structural elements and its proportions are quite different from Four Planes, making it not readily recognised as its sister.
The granite I used for Jelly Bean is an unusually vibrant example of a granite called Metisse. It 46 inches long, 22 1/2 inches wide and stands 35 inches above the floor.
